Les capucines en rond
Egg tempera on masonite and pine panel, crocheted frame using stained poplar and Peruvian Highland wool yarn, 9" x 11", 2020
This work is part of a series that deconstructs and reassembles the facets, objects, memories, patterns, and textures of selected rooms found in the homes of my upbringing.
‘Les capucines en rond’ is a portrait of the porch and front yard of my maternal grandparent’s home. The piece combines images of my grandmother’s gestures, facets of the house and window, the round hedges, and nasturtium flowers and leaves. The crochet sleeve resembles the colour and texture of the curtains pictured in the front window. The bobble crochet stitch mimics the roundness of shapes found in the nasturtiums and hedges.
The egg tempera medium is permanent painting medium mixed by hand using dry pigments, water and egg yolk.
