Démarche artistique
La recherche artistique de Sophie Perry porte sur la perception des nouvelles technologies dans la culture populaire. Elle travaille à partir d’une mythologie cyborgienne, un ensemble de croyances reliées aux outils numériques, autant fictives que réelles. Par des œuvres qui jouent sur l’identité des technologies, elle navigue dans la mystification de celles-ci.
Ses projets pluridisciplinaires, souvent basés sur l’installation, se déploient par la sculpture, le dessin, l’électronique, la vidéo et la performance. Sculptures et dessins représentant des machines sont faits à la main, dans un jeu clownesque; la machine qui émule l’humain est elle-même imitée. Tout est simulacre, les capacités factuelles des machines ne sont pas concernées, uniquement les fantasmes que l’on y projette.
Dans une démarche cyberféministe, Sophie Perry aborde les différentes transformations qu’induisent l’utilisation d’algorithmes et d’intelligence artificielle dans nos vies. Elle récupère les représentations des techniques du numérique dans la culture populaire et les met en scène avec ludisme. L’humour est un levier important, qui lui permet non seulement d’embrasser et d’explorer des concepts perturbants ou révoltants, mais aussi de les détourner et de les transposer dans des espaces réflexifs bienveillants.
Par l’entremise d’un alter-ego androïde, elle réfléchit à l'anthropomorphisation des outils numériques en incarnant le point de vue qu’elle prête aux robots. Elle croit en l’importance d’imaginer de nouvelles façons d'être pour les technologies, notamment pour repenser des concepts tels l’identité, le genre et la mise en récits que l’on en fait.

Sophie Perry's artistic research focuses on the perception of new technologies in popular culture. Her work revolves around cyborg mythology, a set of beliefs linked to digital tools, both fictitious and real. Through works that act on the identity of technologies, she navigates in the mystification of these.
Her multidisciplinary projects, often based on installation, unfold through sculpture, drawing, electronics, video and performance. Sculptures and drawings representing machines are handmade, in a clownish game; the machine which emulates the human is itself imitated. Everything is simulacrum, the factual capacities of the machines are not concerned, only the fantasies that we project into them.
In a cyberfeminist approach, Sophie Perry spoke about the different transformations that the use of algorithms and artificial intelligence induce in our lives. She recovers representations of digital techniques in popular culture and stages them with playfulness. Humor is an important lever, which allows her not only to embrace and explore disturbing or revolting concepts, but also to divert and transpose them into kind reflective spaces.
Through an android alter-ego, she reflects on the anthropomorphization of digital tools by embodying the point of view she gives to robots. She believes in the importance of imagining new ways of being for technologies, in particular to rethink
concepts such as identity, gender and the storytelling that we make of them.
Biographie
Sophie Perry a suivi une formation en contorsion au Centre Régional des Arts du Cirque de Lomme, en France, puis a étudié à l’École Supérieur d’Art de Tourcoing, où elle a obtenu son diplôme national d’art plastique en 2016. De retour au Québec, elle termine son baccalauréat en arts visuels et médiatique, profil enseignement à l’UQAM en 2019. En plus d’enseigner dans plusieurs écoles montréalaises, elle a exposé au Centre des arts de Chicoutimi en 2020 et exposera au centre Atoll de Victoriaville au printemps 2022. Elle a participé à plusieurs projets collaboratifs présentés en France et au Québec, dont le collectif Local 16.

Sophie Perry trained in contortion at the Center Régional des Arts du Cirque de Lomme, in France, then studied at the École Supérieur d'Art de Tourcoing, where she obtained her diplôme national d’art plastique in 2016. Back in Quebec, she completed her bachelor's degree in visual and media arts, teaching profile at UQAM in 2019. In addition to teaching in several Montreal schools, she exhibited at the Center des arts de Chicoutimi in 2020 and will exhibit at the Atoll center in Victoriaville in spring 2022 She has participated in several collaborative projects presented in France and Quebec, including the Local 16 collective.
