(EN) Biography:
Giovanni Lanni was born in Montreal, Quebec and has resided there for most of his life. He received a bachelor’s degree in 2015, from Concordia University, with his focus of study in Fine Arts photography. Giovanni continues to work with photography from his home studio in Montreal.
In 2019 Giovanni interned for Magnum photographer Jacob Aue Sobol in Lolland, Denmark. Here Giovanni spent a year working in Jacob’s studio as well as touring Europe and partaking in various photo exhibitions and festivals as part of Jacob’s team. More recently Giovanni has exhibited his own work for Jano Lapin Art Gallery in 2021, located in Montreal, Quebec.
Giovanni’s photography has taken him throughout Africa, America, and Europe working on various projects which you can see on his website www.giovannilanni.com. His main focus of inspiration is drawn from the exploration of family heritage and personal spaces. In Giovanni’s most recent work titled, “everything until Now and from Now on.”, Giovanni explores the sudden loss of his father and how he came to terms with his grief and his acceptance of the loss.
Giovanni continues to use photography as a way to discover and is now revisiting images from his archive while considering the themes of family and tradition. Giovanni has also begun to explore the web 3 space and NFTs as some of his newest art works include mixed media and digital rendering as well as photography .
