Peering in Through the Window par Alexia McKindsey
Oil on masonite and pine panel, crochet using Peruvian Highland wool, 6" x 6" x 2", 2021
This piece is part of a series of works that combine haptic perception through crochet and optic perception through oil painting. The pieces composing this series are comprised of visually distanced scenes of familiar spaces juxtaposed against the more tactile closeness of pattern and texture found in those same scenes. Each piece is painted by observation without the aid of my glasses or contact lenses as the optic distancing factor. A crocheted patch is wrapped around the paintings, signifying the haptic closeness factor.
Peering in Through the Window depicts the perspective of looking into my living room from the window. The painting takes the form of the room, while the crocheted pattern takes the form of the lace curtain hanging in the window.
